European-wide Edtech Hub Supporting All Ukrainian Teachers and Learners Launches Today

The New Ukrainian School Hub (http://nushub.org/)  a free hub collating educational resources, and knowledge to support Ukrainian refugees, no matter where they are, has launched on Children’s day as announced by the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. Developed by the European Edtech Alliance e.V. (EEA) and “Learning Together” Project, the hub provides access to supplemental edtech solutions and to Ukrainian online learning platforms. Additionally, the hub provides direct access to relevant country specific or local education access information.

The goal for the hub is to ensure that learners, families, educators, and local supporters have the ability to quickly find tools that work for them regardless of where their journey over the coming weeks and months takes them. Importantly, this also supports the integration of Ukrainian resources and Ukrainian learners and teachers within local or regional ecosystems.

“EdTech is a key driver in our education ecosystem and plays a vital role in supporting flexible learning situations for displaced people” states Beth Havinga, Managing Director of the European Edtech Alliance e.V. “With multiple platforms providing important information to refugees regarding their learning and teaching, it is essential to make this information and these resources easily accessible”.

The initiative is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the European Commission. Focussing on resources for school administrators, educators, learners and those supporting learners such as their families, host families or communities. it builds on both the existing collection of over 200 supportive EdTech offerings from over 20 member states collated by the European Edtech Alliance e.V. (EEA) and the infrastructure of the “Learning Together” Project. The  project is also supported by the University of Helsinki, Finnish Consulting Group Ltd, and cooperating with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine (MDT) and UNICEF. The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the Digital Education Action Plan of the European Commission, contributing to the development of a high-performing digital education ecosystem in Europe.

“Whilst numerous resources exist to support learners and educators as they navigate this challenging situation, it is often difficult to find them,” explains Dr. Jarkko Lampiselkä, Chief Technical Advisor of the “Learning Together” Project. “Millions of Ukrainian learners and teachers need to connect into local education opportunities or continue their studies without disruption as they continue to move within EU member states”.

The Hub Partners:

Learning Together project:

Finland’s Support to the Ukrainian School Reform (“Learning Together”) is a four-year collaborative project that started between Ukraine and Finland in July 2018, and was joined by the European Commission in late 2018. The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (6 million euros) and the EU (2 million euros). The expected long-term impact of the “Learning Together” project is to enhance the quality of education in Ukraine as well as the perceptions the Ukrainian citizens have of their education system. MFA has a contract with FCG Finnish Consulting Group Ltd as the main implementing agency in cooperation with the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Helsinki, and the University of Helsinki Centre for Continuing Education HY+. The Project cooperates with the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine (MDT) and UNICEF on the matters of the digitalization of education.

The European Edtech Alliance:

The European Edtech Alliance e.V. (EEA) is a non-for-profit consortium of national trade associations and clusters working with 2460 founders and providers of education technology (Edtech), to support the domestic and international growth of Edtech and Innovation in education. The Alliance has two main areas of focus: policy work and support for Edtech start-ups and scales-ups. Through these two channels, the EEA develops important insights, resources, and tools, which can be used to support sustainable development within the education ecosystem. Since February 2022, the EEA has gathered hundreds of resources and developed a thorough meta-tagging system for supplemental and curricula-based materials supporting Ukrainian learners, teachers and their families.
